Wedding Types
- Church wedding
If you wish to have a church wedding then you need to have a civil wedding beforehand, either in Austria or before you travel, as these ceremonies have no legal validity. For a Roman Catholic wedding, you need to contact the priest at the church at least 6 months in advance in order to complete the church paperwork. 2. Legal civil weddings
The minimal age requirement for legal wedding is 18 years. If either of the parties is an Austrian citizen then the application needs to be filed at the Standesamt of that locality. In case, both the parties are non-Austrians then the application must be filed at the Standesamt of the first district of Vienna. Legally, both parties must be present when the documentation is being processed but in exceptional cases, you need to clarify the issues to the satisfaction of the Standesamt before you proceed. All the necessary documents along with the passport must be translated to German and submitted.
