How do I include my bridesmaids in my Hindu wedding?

My boyfriend is an Indian, and since his mom wants us to get married in a traditional Hindu manner, I was wondering, how would I include my bridesmaids at the wedding. I have just bought a sari, and some bridal jewelry, which I simply loved, and the rest of the ceremonies would take place at the hall, which is near to his home. Although, I have read a lot about Hindu wedding until now, I am still skeptical about how my bridesmaids would dress up, and what would they be required to do at the wedding! Can some wedding expert please help?

Your bridesmaid will have ample opportunities to participate in the wedding and enjoy the rituals. In fact there are a couple of ceremonies in a Hindu wedding which are being carried out by sisters and friends of bride only. These ceremonies are real fun and in Hindu weddings the girls look forward to participate in these ceremonies.

In one such ceremony, the bridesmaids will try to steal the shoes of the bridegroom. The friends and cousins of the groom try their best to protect the shoes of the groom from being stolen and hence they play tricks also but the sole aim of the bridesmaids should be to identify the shoes of the groom and hide them somewhere the groom's side cannot locate them. Once the stealing is done then the bridesmaids ask for money as the 'fee' for releasing the shoes. A lot of bargaining and jokes and humor takes place during this negotiation. Bridesmaids 'quote' a high fee and the family members of the groom bargain for that fee. Finally the fee is given to bridesmaid and the shoes are returned to the groom.

Besides, there is one more ceremony in which the bridesmaids take a water pot on their head and make a few rounds around the groom while he is still seated on the horse (traditionally the groom comes on the horse) or in the car. The groom tries to throw few coins in the pot while the bridesmaids try to save their pots from being thrown with the coins. So, your bridesmaids can have lots of unparallel fun in your Hindu wedding.

They can also wear traditional attire like salwar suit or lehenga choli, which are quite colorful and blingy, ideal choice for weddings.
